چکیده

As set out in the Sustainable Development Goals, it is necessary to achieve universal and equitable access safe drinking water services for all world’s population. Appropriate treatment alternatives rural areas should be prioritised this goal. In work, a simplified system (SDWTS), which has great potential application small communities areas, was evaluated on pilot scale turbidity apparent colour removal using synthetic raw water. The SDWTS integrates Upflow Gravel Filter Layers (UGFL) Rapid Sand (RSF) with previous coagulation. This evaluation carried 23 factorial experiment, factors: type of water, coagulant flow. design showed that had highest efficiencies (>98.7%) II (20 NTU) PACl coagulant, while flow rate no significant effect removal. Under optimal operating conditions (type 1.0 m3/d), produces treated meets standards required by Colombian regulations World Health Organisation recommendations concerning variables: turbidity, colour, total coliforms, E. coli, pH, electrical conductivity Al. maintained its capacity produce potable when increased (up 3.0 m3/d) 50 NTU). can an efficient innovative alternative treatment, implementation contribute

Hydrocarbon contaminated water remediation using a locally constructed multi-stage bioreactor incorporated with media filtration

The present study investigated the coupling effect of biodegradation and media filtration in treating hydrocarbon contaminated water. The study recorded reductions in total petroleum hydrocarbon, total dissolved solids, turbidity and microbial load. The study was essentially a simulated pump and treat process that involved the pumping of hydrocarbon contaminated water for treatment in a locally...

Evaluating a composite cartridge for small system drinking water treatment.

A pilot-scale evaluation was conducted at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Test & Evaluation (T&E) Facility in Cincinnati, Ohio, on a multi-layer, cartridge-based system that combines physical filtration with carbon adsorption and ultraviolet (UV) light disinfection to serve as a home-base water treatment security device against accidental or intentional contaminant events. The sy...

Drinking Water Treatment: a Neural Network Model for Coagulation Dosing

The aim of this paper is to present the development and validation of a neural network model for on-line prediction of coagulant dosage from raw water characteristics. The main parameters influencing the coagulant dosage are firstly determined via a PCA. A brief description of the methodology used for the synthesis of neural models is given and experimental results are included. The training of...

Optimization of a Membrane Filtration Process for Drinking Water Treatment Using Fluorescence-Based Measurements

Membrane fouling control is of paramount importance for sustainable operation of membranebased drinking water treatment processes. Natural organic matter (NOM) is considered as the major membrane foulant and therefore its characterization is important for implementing fouling control strategies. This study proposes a fluorescence-based modeling approach for estimating and predicting the fouling...

A comparative study of prediction models for Coagulation process in drinking Water Treatment Plants

Coagulation process is an essential part of drinking water treatment operations. The jar test is a widely-used laboratory procedure to determine the quantity of coagulation chemical dosages for water treatment plants. However, the test is not effective for real-time control of this process due to the nonlinear behaviour and rapid variations of water quality parameters. In this study, empirical ...
